TECHNICAL NOTE

Audio Memos works on all iPhone and iPod Touch. As the iPod Touch has not internal microphone, an external one is required.

Note that no recorder on the iPhone has the capacity to adjust the input gain, which means that eventual clipping and distortion created by the iPhones microphone can appear in the recordings. If you really care about quality, use an external microphone instead of the built in one.
