ESI 1.0

The Reference Aid for ESI (Emergency Severity Index) is intended to be used in conjunction with a full acuity education module for ESI (the Emergency Severity Index).

This reference aid does not replace the Emergency Severity Index algorithm which can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.ahrq.gov.

The Reference Aid includes such topics as (but not limited to) guidelines for the Triage Assessment Process, Determining Acuity, Consider Whether Situation is High-Risk (for example, Level of Consciousness, Hypertension, Blood Glucose Level, Pain/Distress, Obstetrical, etc.), Consider Danger Zone Vital Signs, Acuity Levels: Criteria and Examples; there are key issues notes on Wait Room, Reassessment, and Audit Aids for various High Risk Systems. The Reference Aid for ESI (Emergency Severity Index) is useful in hardwiring formal triage education such as offered by Triage First, Inc.
