iHadith - Collection of Sahih Bukhari , Sahih Muslim , Sunan Abu Dawud , Malik Muwatta and Hadith Qudsi description
In Islam, the tradition or collection of traditions attributed to the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) that include his sayings, acts, and approval or disapproval of things.Hadith is revered by Muslims as a major source of religious law and moral guidance.
The various collections of Hadith provide the major source for studying the development of Islam in its first few centuries.
Sahih Bukhari
Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (810 - 870), Arabic author of the most generally accepted collection of traditions (Hadith) from Muhammad(P.B.U.H.),was born at Bokhara (Bukharä), of an Iranian family, in All.He early distinguished himself in the learning of traditions by heart, and when, in his sixteenth year, his family made the pilgrimage to Mecca, he gathered additions to his store from the authorities along the route.
Already, in his eighteenth year, he had devoted himself to the collecting, sifting, testing and arranging of traditions.
Sahih Muslim
Imam Muslim (Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj) was born in 202 AH in Nishapur (817/818CE) and died in 261AH (874/875CE)also in Nishapur.
He traveled widely to gather his collection of ahadith (plural of hadith), including to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Egypt.
Out of 300,000 hadith which he evaluated, approximately 4,000 were extracted for inclusion into his collection based on stringent acceptance criteria.
Each report in his collection was checked for compatibility with the Quran, and the veracity of the chain of reporters had to be painstakingly established. Sunni Muslims consider it the second most authentic hadith collection, after the Sahih Bukhari.
Sunan Abu Dawud
Abu Daud or Abu Dawud, full name Abu Daud Sulayman ibn Ash`ath al-Azadi al-Sijistani, was a noted Iranian collector of hadith (sayings/traditions of Muhammad(P.B.U.H.)), and wrote the third of the six canonical hadith collections recognized by Sunni Muslims, Sunan Abi Dawud.
Sunan Abu Dawud is one of six important and authentic collections (Sihah Sittah) of the Prophetic Traditions. The Sunan is Abu Dawuds most important work. It has 4800 traditions selected from a mass of 50,000. It can be called one of the fundamental works on Hadith.
Maliks Muwatta
Mālik ibn Anas ibn Malik ibn Āmr al-Asbahi (c. 711 - 795) (93 AH - 179 AH ) is known as "Imam Malik".
He lived most of his life in Madinah, He was a preeminent scholar of Islam, and is the originator of the Maliki judicial school of thought.
He is reputed to have had over one thousand students. nnDuring Maliks lifetime, he steadily revised his Muwatta, so it reflects over forty years of his learning and knowledge. It contains a few thousand hadith. It is important to realize, however, that Maliks collection is not complete: there are other scholars who worked as Malik did and collected other reports.
Hadith Qudsi
Hadith Qudsi (or Sacred Hadith) are a sub-category of hadith, which are sayings of Muhammad(P.B.U.H.). Muslims regard the Hadith Qudsi as the words of ALLAH, repeated by Muhammad(P.B.U.H.) and recorded on the condition of an isnad (chain of verification by witness(es) who heard Muhammad(P.B.U.H.) say the hadith).nnHowever, according to as-Sayyid ash-Sharif al-Jurjani, the Hadith Qudsi differ from the Quran in that the former were revealed in a dream or through revelation and are "expressed in Muhammad(P.B.U.H)s words", whereas the latter are the "direct words of ALLAH".
