Peterson Field Guide to Backyard Birds 1.2.1 description

NOW WITH MORE BIRDS PER ZIP CODE! If you have ever wondered what birds are commonly seen in your area or the ones that visit your backyard feeder, this easy to use iPhone and iPod Touch app using the popular Peterson Field Guide to North American Birds is a must. Intuitive and easy to operate, the app provides your iPhone with information on 122 species of birds commonly found in the U.S., filtered for the geographic area you select. In addition, the Peterson Field Guide to Backyard Birds offers a fun and simple way to learn more about the birds you are seeing with quizzes so you can learn to identify birds by both sound and sight. Great for kids and adults alike, this app is an excellent resource that uses the authoritative images, maps, and text from the Peterson Field Guides as well as brilliant sounds for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Here’s what you get:

• Peterson bird images with Peterson Identification System arrows pointing to key field marks – double-pinch to make them bigger for greater detail
• Beautifully recorded birdsongs and calls for every bird
• Peterson range maps you can double-pinch to enlarge
• Peterson’s descriptive text, including information on attracting specific birds to your backyard
• Quizzes using the birdsongs and Peterson art to help you identify birds by both their songs and by sight, including scores and correct answers
• Personal checklist so you can keep track of all the birds you have seen
• Filtering of the most popular birds by geographic area so you can choose from the most commonly found birds in that area, making identification a breeze.
• Ability to select any area in the continental U.S. by using the map OR the 1st two numbers of its zip code, and see commonly found birds in that area, then change to another area and learn more birds—or browse through all 122 species, listed in the taxonomic order found in the Peterson Field Guide, and learn about them all.

”Roger Tory Peterson was an innovator, as evidenced by the publication of his groundbreaking Field Guide to the Birds in 1934. If he were a young birder today, he surely would have been at the forefront of birding technology, embracing the digital possibilities available to us now," says Lisa White, director of guidebooks at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing. "His mission was to educate as many people as possible about nature, and the availability of his work on a mobile platform through Wildtones serves to further that goal and carry on his legacy."

A NOTE FROM THE PRODUCERS:

To ensure your new app does not crash, please reboot your iPhone or Touch after downloading the app.

If you do not hear any sounds, dont despair! Please check the mute button on the side of your iPhone or Touch to be certain it is not muted and check your settings to be sure the sound settings are set high enough to hear the sound! Most iPhones and Touches seem to have the sound volume set to mute or very low at the factory, so avoid audio disappointment and get those sound settings up!

If you have any questions or issues with the app, please let us know as we rely on your specific comments and requests as well as issues you have encountered to continue to improve the product. Going forward, we can’t promise to include every suggestion received, but we will do our best where feasible to include your suggestions in current or future releases. Thanks again for your support.
