The Imitation of Christ - Thomas a Kempis
This classic Christian devotional has been cherished for many generations. Originally published in latin around 1418 the book has now been published in excess of 2000 different editions. 1000 of those editions are preserved in the British Museum. Protestants and Roman Catholics alike join in giving it praise. The Jesuits give it an official place among their "exercises". John Wesley and John Newton listed it among the works that influenced them at their conversion. General Gordon carried it with him to the battlefield and it is said Pope John Paul I was reading a copy when he died.
Now you can carry a copy of this treasure on your iPhone for inspiration anytime, anywhere. Michael Joseph Gross said that it would be, "Better to read this book a little here and there, now and then, than to try gobbling it cover to cover. Imitation is no triumph of orderly thinking, but its a great monument and incentive to deep living." This Tapstack will allow you to read from The Imitation of Christ in precisely the manner he recommends.
Illustrator Luc Freymanc
Further adding to the contemplative nature of this text each of the eighty selected excerpts have been laid out on beautifully aged cards featuring the pen-and-ink artwork of Luc Freymanc.
Luc drew his first pen and ink image of Jesus Christ the evening after his father died and it was placed next to his obituary in the local newspaper. Since drawing that first striking image (which continues to be used in many obituaries) he has gone on to draw many hundreds of images of Christ ranging in style and substance.
His drawings continue to be evocative and emotional, capturing the tensions of a life modeled after Jesus Christ. You will find his images draw you into Kempis text and illuminate it in unexpected ways.
