wishoTouch (Japanese-English word and kanji dictionary) 1.2

Unlike most Japanese dictionary apps, this one provides a simple way of finding kanji — by radical, number of strokes, grade, meaning and more — as well as words. When searching for words, tap a kanji in a compound to see its details. When viewing a kanji’s details, tap it to see its compounds. With its streamlined interface and multiple search methods, wishoTouch lets you quickly find that word or kanji.

WORD SEARCH
• Based on JMdict (140,000+ entries)
• Look up in English and Japanese (kanji, kana, romaji
• To cancel a search, tap the translucent screen
• Tap a kanji in results to see its details
• Tap a part-of-speech to sort the results; tap it again to unsort
• Refine a search with additional term in either language, e.g.
‘red か’ (without quotes) searches for entries containing ‘red’ where kana starts with ‘か’
‘赤 か’ (without quotes) searches for entries containing ‘赤’ where kana starts with ‘か’
赤 -red (space hyphen) searches for entries containing ‘赤’ where English does not contain ‘red’

KANJI SEARCH
• Based on kanjidic2 (6,355 entries)
• Optional inclusion of non-jouyou kanji
• To access this view without tapping a kanji, tap the toolbar icon of the current view
• Tap a label to browse kanji with same attribute
• Look up by radical, strokes, grade, meaning, reading, UCS
• To look up kanji: tap the row label to make it red, then tap the row search icon
• To filter kanji: tap the row label to make it red, then tap the search icon of the row you want to filter by
• To cancel a search, tap the translucent screen
• Tap the large kanji to look up its compounds (to return to this view, tap the same kanji in a compound)
• Drag the rows by their icons to reorder
• Tap ‘+’ button to add kanji to Bookmarks
• Rotate the device to browse current set of kanji in landscape mode
• In landscape mode, tap a tile to see that kanji’s details

HANDWRITING SEARCH
• Optional inclusion of non-jouyou kanji
• Multiple-undo lets you retry any stroke(s)
• Tap a kanji in the results to see its details

BOOKMARKS VIEW
• Rotate the device to view kanji bookmarks in landscape mode
• To delete an individual bookmark, tap its reorder icon
• Word search history

LIMITATIONS
• Handwriting search is stroke-order dependant

NOTE: If the character youve drawn doesnt appear in the results, you may need to enable "nonjouyou kanji" on the back.

This package uses the JMDICT and KANJIDIC2 dictionary files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group at Monash University and are used in conformance with the Group’s licence.
