The wordless book uses the universal language of color to tell the good news of the gospel.

This classic salvation tool began in 1866 in London. The prince of preachers, Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached a message called the worldless book at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. In the sermon Spurgeon told of a preacher who would look at three pages to remind him of his sin and how Jesus had saved him. The pages were red, black and white, and so the wordless book was born.

Years later a gold page was added updating the book to four pages.Documents show that DL Moody used the four page worldess book in Liverpool in early 1875. The blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby would also use the book carrying a copy in her purse so she could tell children the story.

Amy Carmichael used a silk flag hoisted from a cart pulled by oxen to spread the message from village to village through India.

CEF, Children Evangelism Fellowship would later add the green color to represent christian growth.
